Special COVID-19

Webinar 1: How to manage the next wave of disruption?

Exchange between Risk Managers and  Experts from McKinsey.

When: Wednesday 15 April – 11:30 CET

Organised by: FERMA with the cooperation of  ANRA (Italian Risk Management Association)

Subject: Getting ahead of the next stage of the coronavirus crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading at an extraordinary speed. Companies have put a crisis team in place and are doing all they can to keep people safe, stay on top of the business, and deal with the uncertainty amid constantly changing conditions. However, that isn’t likely to be good enough. Close on the heels of the coronavirus outbreak, the next wave of disruption—the biggest economic shock since World War II—is headed our way. And it isn’t just an economic shock: it is a shock to customer behaviors and business models too. To handle this situation, companies need to adopt an operating model that accommodates the extreme level of uncertainty facing their business.

This webinar session will set the above scene and launch a debate between leading Risk managers and Experts from the consulting firm McKinsey. They will cover different aspects of business, providing insight into the risks and disruption in the wake of COVID-19, and assess how organisations of all sizes can successfully manage the challenges.

Ferma artificial intelligence applied to risk management

Why risk managers should look at Artificial Intelligence now?

European Commission considers a risk-based approach to Artificial Intelligence

When: Tuesday 19 May – 16:00-17:00 CET

Organised by: FERMA and Speaker from the European Commission

Subject: As the new President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen promised legislation that would focus on Artificial Intelligence within the first 100 days of her taking office. The outcome was the release on 19 February 2020 of a White Paper on Artificial Intelligence, “A European approach to excellence and trust”. FERMA welcomes the European Commission’s approach which is in line with its vision on managing AI-related risks as presented in its own White Paper “Artificial Intelligence applied to Risk Management”.

The objective of our webinar is to discuss how AI applications can contribute to the fight against COVID19 and how it can be implemented into the risk management practices in order to ensure the continuity of businesses and prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

Philippe Cotelle, Head of Insurance Risk Management at Airbus Defence and Space and FERMA Board member, will highlight the key findings from FERMA’s report on “AI applied to Risk Management” and will replace them in the context of the COVID19 crisis. He will especially focus on exit strategies such as the use of tracing apps which collect mobility data from infected persons.

To this regard, we will welcome Brendan Van Alsenoy (to be confirmed), Legal Officer at the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), which will underline the risks linked to data tracing and how the current EU legal framework address those issues.

Finally, Irina Orssich (European Commission) will present the Commission’s White Paper on AI and the other EU initiatives which aim at strengthening the EU legal framework regarding AI applications, especially in the field of privacy.
